Anyone who tells you to eat less and do more cardio is full of shit, plain and simple.
Personally, I believe in lifting heavy stuff 4-5 days a week coupled with a mix of intermittent fasting and carb cycling. An no, my physique is not just "genetic". There's not a single person in my immediate family who is athletic, I was overweight in middle school, and I had an underactive thyroid for years.
To me, it just comes down to two things: 1. Making a CHOICE to change your habits (I decided at an earlier age than most to live a healthy life). If you don't want to change, that's cool too, but just be honest with yourself. Eat and drink whatever you want whenever you want, but don't complain about not having the body you want. 2. Having a healthy relationship with food (wrecking the one body you have and the one thing you have 100% control over in life with binge eating b/c you feel a certain way for a period of time makes zero sense).
Food is not a substitute for friendship or love or companionship. Food is fuel for your machine. Yes, you can and SHOULD eat plenty of things you like, but just save those extra calories for days you've actually EARNED them. Anyway, just sharing my perspective for my followers who have recently asked me questions on the subject.
